Illegal Immigrant Jailed over Tuberculosis

UPDATE: ICE has determined that Santos is in the country illegally. (Shocking, I know!) Because of his age, he will receive free treatment, courtesy of American Taxpayers, until the feds can confirm that he has family in Mexico to take care of him, or the Mexican government will. It will take months.
Four of his relatives have tested positive for TB and are receiving treatment. No word on the immigration status of the rest of the family.

A 17-year old Mexican, named Francisco Santos, is being held in the Gwinnett County Detention center. He was diagnosed with active, contagious tuberculosis on friday. When the doctors told him, he refused to believe them, refused treatment, said he was going back to Mexico, and went to leave.
Gwinnett County officials put him in jail.

David Will, the county health attorney, said Santos was detained because he is a public health threat.

"He has active, contagious TB," Will said Saturday. "He is at risk of communicating that with anybody he comes in contact with."

Will said Santos is being held under a court order for confinement. He'll stay in that cell until either he starts cooperating and accepting treatment, or a judge makes some other decision at a Sept. 5 hearing. At that commitment hearing, the judge could decide to place him in a hospital with security.

Santos listed his birth place as Mexico. Will said he did not know the status of Santos' citizenship. The Gwinnett jail has two federal immigration agents who screen foreign-born inmates to determine whether to investigate their status and potentially place a hold on them for deportation.

According to the CDC's Web site, in 2006, a total of 13,767 TB cases were reported in the United States.

There has been a resurgence of TB in the United States during 1985-1992. {Gee, what immigration trend happened during that time?} A disproportionately high rate of TB in this country has been seen among Asians and Hispanics, and the CDC is working with international health organizations to help reduce TB in affected countries.

According to the CDC, in 2006, the TB rate among foreign-born persons in the United States was 9.5 times that of U.S.-born persons.

In 2006, for the third consecutive year, more TB cases were reported among Hispanics than any other racial/ethnic population. Among persons with TB whose country of birth was known, 95.6% were foreign born.

But remember, if you want to secure the border, you're a racist, nativist, inhuman bastard!
What are the chances that TB could be transmitted if Francisco, or one of his 'several siblings', cough on my burrito grande? Just wondering.

Slipped a Damn Disk Again

What more is there to say. I was at the gym, sitting on a bench. I had just finished doing bench press with two dumb bells. I went to stand up, apparently not accounting for the extra weight. I felt that little stab in my back. Afterwards, I felt the weird pain shooting into my legs.

I spent last night, trying to stretch my back. It helped a lot, but this morning it's tightened back up. So long as I can avoid another incident like the one in the driveway, I'll be ok.

This screws up lifting and aikido. I was planning on testing for my orange belt next month.

Street Sweepers

I haven't had a garage sale in a while, simply because it's not worth it to me to blow a Saturday sitting in my driveway, just so I can make $10.
Instead, if I want to get rid of something, I just put it at the end of my driveway with a "FREE" sign on it. The latinos in my community have never let anything remain there for more than an hour.
I did this with a table and chairs on Saturday. Sure enough, when I checked an hour later, the table and chairs were gone.

But so was the wooden "FREE" sign.

Man. Those guys don't miss a thing.

Only Whites Commit Hate Crimes

This is Jovon Nicholson, he and two friends targeted hispanics for carjacking and robbery. They have admitted this. They said they felt that Hispanics were less likely to go to police.

Targeting someone specifically according to their ethnicity? Isn't that the very definition of a hatecrime?

Nicholson was charged with murder in the death of Aurelio German Mendoza-Garcia, 46, who was killed when Nicholson tried to steal his car in Norcross on July 8, 2006. Nicholson pleaded guilty to manslaughter in that death, rather than face the murder charge.

He has been sentenced to 35 years, but I notice that there is no indication that he received additional time for the hate crime (GA does have hate crime sentencing).

This is working out

I went to the gym before work this morning. On my way out, I passed a very pretty college girl with ice-blue eyes. She held eye contact for just a little too long, if you know what I mean. I said good morning, and she giggled and said good morning back.

Afterward, I checked that my fly wasn't down. Nope. Ok. Looked in the mirror. Nothing freaky stuck in my hair. Ok.

Maybe she was just wondering who let grandpa into the gym, but it made me feel good.

Current Events

Let's see...what's going on in the world?

I haven't been back to the gym since I started aikido, not much at least. My membership expired in august anyway, and they are upping the cost to where it's not worth it.

A coworker pointed out to me that the local state college has a fitness center, and if I join whatever endowment association, then I get access to it. The cost of membership? $250/year! That comes out to about $20/month! Find a gym anywhere that can come close. They have a full weightroom, aerobic equipment, the works, plus a pool! Not to mention, the eye candy is a nice bonus. I love this fashion trend of 19 and 20 year old girls wearing tiny little shorts with signs on the ass.

It also feels great to be sore from lifting.

Aikido is going well. I wish I could get it quicker, but it's far more complicated than karate. I'm having trouble feeling my opponent's energy, and my previous training often works against me.

We're moving the school at the end of September.

The house looks great. Wish I had a camera.

Can ANYONE believe that Lindsey Lohan is getting off with about a day in jail?!!!!

She only had:

2 DUIs, 2 counts of possession of cocaine, transporting a narcotic into a custodial facility, driving on a suspended license, drinking underage and fleeing the scene of an accident.

All over America, white people are shocked, and black people aren't.

In identical news, Nicole Richie is only getting 82 minutes in jail, when all she did was:

On December 11th of last year, Nicole Richie was arrested after driving the wrong way down the Burbank Freeway. When sheriffs deputies found her, she was parked on the freeway, talking on her cellphone. When questioned, she admitted she was high on vicodin and had been smoking marijuana. This was not her first DUI. In 2002, she was arrested for driving 50 miles per hour in a 15 mph zone near UCLA. She had a .13 blood alcohol level, almost twice the legal limit. Six months later, she was convicted for possession of heroin and driving on a suspended license.

Oh yeah, the legal system is fair.

Mike Vick's loser father is in the paper, saying Mike is "Deeply into Dogfighting". Other quotes from dear old dad:

"I wish people would stop sugarcoating it," Boddie said. "This is Mike's thing. And he knows it."

He "likes it, and he has the capital to have a set up like that."

"I told him basically, 'You don't need to be doing this [dogfighting]. You got bigger fish to fry. You got more important things that you can do.' "

Boddie recalled telling his son to transfer the property to the name of one of his friends: " 'Take this place right now, put it in one of their names because if anything goes wrong . . . it's you they coming after.' "

Thanks Dad!

Not surprisingly, with family like that, Mike signed the plea deal.

Wrrrrrrrrr...click...click...click

That's the sound that my truck made when I went to leave work for lunch yesterday. I knew my battery cables were in pretty bad shape. I saw the piles of puffy, green powder covering the terminals. I just kept putting it off.

So I got a jump from one of my coworkers and dropped it off at the mechanic. It was ready by the time I got off work, and only cost me $25, so all in all, it could have been worse.

Moaning cockroaches

This morning, I went downstairs and opened the back door to go out on the deck before it gets too hot. A HUGE cockroach was apparently basking whatever cool air was leaking out of the door. As soon as I opened the door and the rush of cold air came over him, he made a dash for the relief of air conditioning.
Thinking quickly, I grabbed the first thing in reach with which to smash him; Zachary's Bobo toy.

Forgetting that Bobo has a noisemaker inside him, I mightily struck the cockroach, only to hear:

MWAWAAAAAAAA

My first thought was that the sound came from the last breaths of the invading cockroach. Let me tell ya, that will give you pause.

It's an Athlete Thing

Perpetual Idiot and ex-football player, Deion Sanders, has chimed in on the Michael Vick dogfighting scandal, with a column in the Fort Myers Press.

Deion thinks that dogfighting is okee dokey, it's what athletes do, and this is just Vick's way of showing how much he loves his dogs.

What a dog means to Vick might be a lot different than what he means to you or I. And some people enjoy proving they have the biggest, toughest dog on the street. You’re probably not going to believe this, but I bet Vick loves the dogs that were the biggest and the baddest. Maybe, he identified with them in some way.

Why are we indicting him? Was he the ringleader? Is he the big fish? Or is there someone else? The fights allegedly occurred at a property that he purchased for a family member. They apparently found carcasses on the property, but I must ask you again, is he the ringleader? This situation reminds me of a scene in the movie “New Jack City,” when drug dealer Nino Brown is on the witness stand and eloquently says, “This thing is bigger than me.” Are we using Vick to get to the ringleader? Are we using him to bring an end to dogfighting in the United States? The only thing I can gather from this situation is that we’re using Vick.

I believe Vick had a passion for dogfighting. I know many athletes who share his passion. The allure is the intensity and the challenge of a dog fighting to the death. It’s like ultimate fighting, but the dog doesn’t tap out when he knows he can’t win.It reminds me of when I wore a lot of jewelry back in the day because I always wanted to have the biggest chain or the biggest, baddest car. It gives you status.

His ears had been cut off by his owner

Liberal Frog Boiling

The NY Times is reporting that a city council bitch, named Darlene Mealy of Brooklyn, is proposing banning the words 'Bitch' and 'Ho'.
Councilman Leroy G. Comrie Jr., the Queens Democrat who successfully sponsored a symbolic moratorium on the word 'nigger', that was adopted Feb. 28, said he supported Ms. Mealy’s measure.

And liberals wonder why us gun-nuts are wary of their proposals for 'sensible' gun control.

Liberal nanny-staters have been following the same incremental playbook for years.

Remember when they banned smoking on airline flights? Made sense, didn't it?
Then they seperated restaurants into smoking and non-smoking.
Then they banned smoking from restaurants all together, but not bars.
Then they banned it in bars.
Then they banned it near parks and schools.
Then they banned it in cars.
Then they banned it in apartments.

The verbal bans are just symbolic, for now. Soon they will be included in liberals' favorite cudgel; hate speech.

Renovation Update

Things have slowed a little, but at least the important stuff is done.

We've also had a few bumps in the road.

One of the siding guys apparently tried to stand on one of our deck chairs and put his foot through it. After leaving a big, muddy bootprint on it, he covered it with a blanket, so we didn't see it until he was gone.

After specifically telling them not to re-install an eye-bolt that was screwed into the back of the house, the minimally-english-speaking workers did it anyway, running the screw through the new siding. A little hell-raising later, they replaced the piece of siding.

The shutters and the lattice had been completely forgotten, but a phone call cleared that up.

There were a couple of trim-boards that had carpenter bee holes in them. I was told the boards would be replaced before being covered with siding. I'm certain they were not. I had snuck up on the scaffolding after the first day, and confirmed that the wood was structurally ok, so no big deal.

The locks on the garage doors don't retract far enough to clear the track.

Mrs Schwartz does not like having workers in the house when she's trying to work.

They should be done trimming the internals of the windows tomorrow. I think it went pretty quickly, but I'll be glad when it's all done.

We Are Endowed by Our Creator...

Portrait of a Moron. This knuckledragger filed a lawsuit because her spawn can't hold his shit in the community pool and {SHOCKING} other folks have a hard time with the idea of swimming in her brat's feces {THE SISSIES}.

She filed a complaint with the Ohio Civil Rights Commision against her condo association after they told her that 1-year-old Lucas can't swim in the community pool in his diaper.

"As a parent, it's my responsibility to defend his rights," she said.

Yes, his RIGHT to shit in the community pool. Just as the Founding Fathers intended.

She took her complaints to the Fair Housing Association, who called the rule a violation of federal and state housing laws. {Something to think about, for all you libs that think the government is so brilliant}

Isn't this EXACTLY what is wrong with America today? Every idiot thinks it is their right to shit in the community pool.
