Norcross man gets six life sentences, then 211 years.

Gustavo Cisneros, 22, was one of nine men indicted for a series of nine home invasion robberies in Gwinnett in the spring of 2004.

The masked, armed bandits battered, shot and tortured male victims, sexually assaulted some female victims and pistol-whipped a child. They stole money, jewelry and vehicles, authorities said.

The three men were part of an organized crew that stormed into nine houses in Gwinnett and one in neighboring Barrow County between Feb. 25 and April 30, 2004. The crimes set area residents on edge because of their randomness.

The group's last robbery ended with the suspects shooting a 40-year-old man four times at a Duluth home. The man was hospitalized with serious injuries.

In another of the home invasions, on April 18, 2004, the suspects tied up a man at a house on Shadowood Road in Lawrenceville, then burned and cut his back with a heated knife.

"They were threatening to cut his sons' fingers off if they didn't tell him where their money was," Jones said.

Three women in Gwinnett and one in Barrow were sexually assaulted in separate incidents, Jones said.

Checking the docket for the Gwinnett County Sheriff, I find that they are also being held for ICE, meaning they are illegal aliens. Thanks, Mexico, for exporting your rich culture to the US!!!

  • Because no native-born people ever commit crimes, right? Certainly never killed or sexually tortured anyone, randomly attacked anybody in a home invasion, or held a kid for ransom? Or even so much as jaywalked? Because crime is a nationally defined cultural attribute -- and no one in the United States would ever commit a crime. That's only something that Mexicans do, because it's part of their national culture.

C'mon, now. Don't go all stupid on me. I'm willing to consider whether having to live outside a nation's laws makes some people indifferent to lawful behavior. Perhaps you have to turn badass to survive in a place where you can't trust anybody and every penny-ante tinhorn deputy is out to get you. I'm even willing to think about whether people who had been able to get along more or less under the radar are turning desperate now that those spaces to get along are being eliminated by our aggressive laws -- so whoopee, this latest rash of rapine and house invasions would be an indication that we're really winning the war on illegal immigration, huh? (The law of unintended consequences is a bitch.)

  • Oh Bridgett, my cute little red cupcake.
Of course we have far too much violent, deplorable behavior from home-grown scumbag. All the reason more that we do not IMPORT MORE OF IT.

Are you actually saying that all that went wrong is that poor Gustavo didn't get enough coddling from local deputies? That's what turned someone from an honest hard working pillar of the community to a person that tortures victims with a hot knife and threatens to cut off their childrens' fingers if they don't divulge where their money is hidden?
Can you possibly BE that naive?

C'mon, now. Don't go all stupid on me.

  • Hang on, Lou Dobbs, that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that the whole "Mexican culture is drug-addled and violent" isn't doing it. Bad is as bad does. Our problem in my fair city is illegal immigrants (Russian cracklords and Irish gunrunners) supplying suburban white kids with automatic weapons and rock. The criminal subculture transcends national or ethnic identities and cuts across native-born, naturalized, and undocumented people.

Like I said, I'm willing to think about a variety of causes -- anything from "one has to be tough to make the trip and stay one step ahead of the law" to "when you can't get a legal job, there's only illegal jobs left and you can make a lot of money in the drug trade, but you have to be willing to do some pretty brutal shit." I just don't believe, as you argued, that it's some national attribute.

  • Yeah, and I'm saying, it ain't doctors and lawyers sneaking across the border. My whole stance on immigration is to secure the border so that we CAN screen who is coming in. These idiots in the story didn't start out as boy scouts and then get turned into vicious bastards because they couldn't get that dishwashing job. They were like that before they came over.
