Thought for the Day

If Healthcare is a right, then why can't we claim the total cost of it as a deduction on our taxes?

*Currently, you only get a deduction for the cost of healthcare that exceeds 7.5% of you adjusted gross income.

What DO they talk about?

Total scumbag, racist, bitch, Monica Conyers has plead guilty to bribery charges in Detroit. She has admitted to taking about $6000 in bribes for a sludge hauling deal. She could face up to 5 years in prison (yeah, right). I'll bet that she doesn't serve a day, but who knows, it's federal.

Her husband is powerful congressman John Conyers.

I'm sure he knew nothing about it. Afterall, couldn't you just imagine your spouse getting a $6000, in cash, bribe, and forgetting to bring it up around the dinner table?
/sarcasm

UPDATE

Well, Golly Gee. John Conyers has decided to drop his investigation of ACORN.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers Jr. has backed off his plan to investigate purported wrongdoing by the liberal activist group ACORN, saying ‘powers that be’ put the kibosh on the idea.

Just before his wife gets sentenced. What a coincidence!

No concept of capitalism

This bugged the hell out of me when I first heard it. Now, I'm reminded of it as it makes the rounds.

President Obama was doing his press thingy. Some reporter asked him about his government health insurance pushing private health insurers out of business. Obama responds "If private insurers say that the marketplace provides the best quality health care; if they tell us that they're offering a good deal, then why is it that the government, which they say can't run anything, suddenly is going to drive them out of business? That's not logical."

Hey, Jackass! The government doesn't have to make a profit!

Either he is THAT stupid, or he thinks WE are THAT stupid. Niether one fills me with happiness.

Media Hysteria

You have to be careful now a days, not to fall into one of the media-hyped tragedies.
These are the situations which have been so hyped by the media that they have become scripture.
DUI comes to mind. It used to be, that if a cop saw you swerve, he'd follow you and make a determination as to your driving ability. Now, we have roadblocks and breathalyzers. Drinking and driving is now sacrilegious. It matters not your level of impairment; one drink qualifies you for a felony. So sayeth MADD.

The other tragedy is leaving your kids in the car while you run into a store.

Both of these scenarios start out with a core of sense (like all religions) then extrapolate it to the absurd. No, leaving a baby in the car is not the best thing in the world, but if it's not hot out, and you lock the car and you run in for five minutes while the kid is in a car seat, is that really a hanging offense?

In our paper the headline reads:

Mother arrested for locking 4-month-old twins in car while shopping

Pretty bad, huh? The story tells how the infants were discovered by another shopper who could hear their cries through the cracked windows.

Oh, the humanity! Of course they called paramedics and the cops. Lo and behold! The babies are fine. Even though they were taken to the friggin hospital, just in case. Sweet Jesus, what a wussy society we've become.

I'm a little skeptical because it says this happened at 10 o'clock at night!

The old bitty that called the cops says it was still 90 degrees out. I don't know what she was smoking because it was not 90 degrees at 10pm last night. Also, there's no sun out, so there's no greenhouse effect with the car. Of course, the newspaper keeps repeating, "Temperatures reached above 90 degrees on Saturday". Yeah, but not at 10pm!

I'm not saying this broad is mother of year, but now she's arrested and charged with two counts of cruelty to children. She just paid a $3000 bond to get out. Hell, I'll bet her kids could be taken away from her.

Monday's Joke

If a Queen calls a black has-been a fucking faggot, is that a hate crime?
If the black has-been then hits the Queen, is that a hate crime?

I need a playbook.

Weekend del Exador

Saturday:
A bunch of people are on vacation right now. I usually have an aikido class from 9-11 on Saturdays, but last week only myself and one other guy showed up. So this morning, I called around and discovered that nobody was going, so I didn't go either.
Instead, I went for a run/walk at a trail nearby. It's called the Suwannee Green. It's paved and goes through some woods. The part I did is 2.5 miles, then 2.5 miles back.
Then I decided to put some stain on the mailbox post. Ten years ago, when I installed the post, I was a new home owner. I didn't appreciate that Home Depot doesn't put any finish on them. So years later, it was looking pretty rough.
I was right in the middle of it, when Mrs Schwartz was backing out of the driveway to go to the store. She stopped midway and starting yelling for help and flailing her arms around. I came around the passenger side. She was yelling that there was a spider. I ran around to the driver's side.

There was a tiny spider on the OUTSIDE of the closed window. She was yelling, "He'll get me when I get out!!!"

Sunday morning, we woke up early and went for a long walk with the dogs.

Does this make anyone nervous?

From an article in the April edition of COTS journal.

The article is about UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) in development by the military. The following line caught my attention:

As the largest UAV yet built in the UK, its computing payload will be able to autonomously control the aircraft to taxi, take off, and navigate its way to a search area while reacting to any threats or other events. It will then route its way around the search area in whichever way it wants to, locate the target, and then use its sensor system to transmit a series of images and views back to the operator to confirm it is the target to be attacked. Then, once it has been authorized to do so, it autonomously attacks that target, routes its way back home, lands and taxies back. Ground testing is expected to take place in early 2009, with the first flight trials taking place in 2010.

Seen any of those Terminator movies? What's the worst that could happen?

From Helen to Bataan

We spent the weekend hiking. While all the hiking was strenous, the worst part was the constant battle with the ticks. The good news is that none of the little bastards ever got dug in. We just found them on us, which is skeevy enough.

I think the total for me was four. Two off of Janet and three off of Susan. Mrs Schwartz had none. Since I always have to walk first, in order to clear the way of potential spider attacks, I get all the little hitchhikers.

We hiked into Anna Ruby Falls, then took the Smith Creek Trail down to Unicoi State Park. Then we went around the lake and hiked up the road to bring us back to our car at the falls Welcome Center.

The Smith Creek Trail is 5 miles. We started at 10:15 and got back to the car at about 2:15. We were all beat.

Civil Servants

I went out for lunch today and some morons decided to set up a 50 foot flag across Brown's Bridge Road.
Whatever the reason for the flag, the morons decided to put it up at 12:15 (lunch hour rush). They didn't even have a traffic cop there. They just stopped two cherry pickers in the middle of the road and started at it. It was at a point where all traffic into/outof the southern end of Gainesville bottlenecks.

All traffic was completely stopped.

I finally went around a small mountain to reroute around that cluster-party.

Brilliant.

Well, That's Wierd

The big story around town is about this woman who got kidnapped, hauled off to Tennessee and raped in a remote cabin, before being saved by the pizza delivery man.

The story was right out of a horror movie.

Then it got reported that the woman knew her rapist.

Then it got reported that she had two previous convictions of falsely reporting being raped, and was still on probation for the second one.

The we found out that she knew her rapist from when she worked at Tattletales (a local strip club) and he was a patron.

Now evidence is surfacing that the "rapist"'s story might be true. The two are dating and she is into bondage and rape/kidnap role playing.

Just another little reminder for the folks who think that no one should question the evidence when a woman accuses rape.

UPDATE: The woman's own mother says she lying.

The Atlanta stripper’s troubles started when she was young, family members said. She spent time in and out of youth detention facilities and mental institutions, her mother said.

When she was 15, family members said the alleged victim set her uncle’s Locust Grove home on fire - while her mother and brother were asleep inside.

Several months later, she set fire to several trash cans inside an Early County church, causing damage throughout the building, Tye-Carter said.

“She wasn’t allowed in church without parents,” the mother said.

She also was sent to counseling after locking her younger sister in a closet, which she set on fire, Tye-Carter said. That was in addition to trying to drown her sister in a bathtub full of scalding water, Tye-Carter said. Each time, family members rescued the little sister.

As she grew older, doctors diagnosed the alleged victim with psychological problems and seizures, for which they prescribed medication, her mother said.
